Oak building components of structural quality are currently in popular demand up and down the country. However it is not quite so easy to obtain bespoke components, which can be grafted into existing homes to be of either a structural or decorative benefit. By producing completely bespoke Oak Beam Components Oakmasters can do just that.
Oak Beams, columns, posts and curved braces as well as roof trusses, purlins and rafters can be made to measure and installed easily, with all their joints prefabricated and presented in kit form. This can be of real benefit to renovators who merely want to embellish and improve on their existing property and can be appropriate for many styles of build.
It is not possible to keep such components in stock, since every requirement is different and it is important that all bespoke Oak Beams are of an exceptional quality to ensure that they add a sense of identity and warmth -even if they are for primarily structural purposes. As a result the beams must be fabricated to specification in each case, with specially crafted joints.

One of the most popular methods of integrating the warmth of Oak Beams into an existing build is in the form of an Oak Beam Ceiling Layout. These symmetrical arrangements give the effect of exposed floor joists from the room above and are designed to fit either decoratively or structurally, sometimes involving post and brace supports. Beautifully crafted joists are morticed into main beams running the width of the room, which can be screwed or embedded into the walls at either end.

In a similar vein, Oak Cladding can be fixed to the walls of an existing building to reinforce the illusion of an oak frame. This can be achieved in any style required but most commonly the symmetrical patterns of Tudor fashion are favoured. The cladding is mounted onto either interior or exterior walls using cement and screws. More information is available by clicking here.
Other decorative products such as fireplace beams are of tremendous aesthetic value -a considerable amount of artistic flair and skill is required to create a lasting feature. Over the years Oakmasters have produced literally thousands of stunning, handcrafted fireplace beams –each one completely unique. The process of fuming and adzing enables us to transform a sawn beam into a striking centre-piece.

An Oak Fireplace Beam can be mounted in a variety of ways. Often each end of the beam can be cemented onto the brick piers which make up the opening of the fireplace. A mantel-piece can be screwed into place using crafted corbels with counter-sunk, plugged screw holes. Alternatively a beam can be rendered into the wall above the fire. Problems can often be encountered in this area since Oakmasters uses green oak to create their Fireplace Beams. Cracks more-often-than-not occur in the main beam, which add to the character of the feature. More information is available on the subject of cracking in the FAQ section.
